Maja Melinc Mlekuž, PhD

Maja Melinc Mlekuž graduated in Slovene language, literature and cultural sociology from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, where she also obtained her PhD in literature didactics. Since 2008, she has worked at the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica as a lecturer of Slovene as a second/foreign language, a teaching assistant in Slovene literature, as well as in Literature didactics and Language didactics. Currently she is Full Professor of Slovene for foreigners. She has taught Slovene and History in Slovene-language schools in Italy for many years. She is part of the editorial team of the magazine The Slovene language at school (Slovenščina v šoli), which is published by the Slovene National Education Institute. Her fields of interest include the development of national identity and intercultural competencies, didactics of the Slovene language and empirical research relating to education in the contact area between the Slovene and the Italian language. Since 2019 she has been working as a researcher at the Slovene Research Institute (SLORI) in Trieste.
