This is a collection of the main essays written by the founder and first director of the Slovene Research Istitute Karel Šiškovič (1927-1982). They are divided into four chapters: the first gathers author’s views on the national issue of the Slovenes in Italy, the second contains his considerations about the evolution of the political situation, the third provides the basis for a legislative solution to the issue of the safeguard of the Slovene minority in Italy, the fourth dwells upon specific problems of the minority. The volume is completed by a reasoned bibliography of the author from 1962 to 1982.
