This bilingual publication Dodana vrednost jezikov in kultur / Il valore aggiunto delle lingue e delle culture (eng. The added value of languages and cultures) is part of the activities of the 4th workpackage of the cross-border project EDUKA Vzgajati k različnosti/Educare alla diversità/Educating to diversity. The authors have collected the experiences on diffusing knowledge on national and linguistic minorities and on the immigration communities between Slovenia and Italy. The cross-border area is characterized by the specific co-presence of different languages and cultures, that is the historic presence of the Slovenian national community in Region Friuli Venezia Giulia and of the Italian national community in Slovenia and Croatia. In the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia are also important the Friulian language and culture, and at the same time, on both sides of the border, we register a strong growth of immigrants from foreign countries, organized in communities and associations.

The need to promote intercultural education and reciprocal knowledge among different national, cultural and linguistic communities, who live and work in the considered area, is thus growing. In their contributions, the authors illustrate the contents and methods of intercultural education for work with school pupils and students of different school types and levels and of universities. Altogether, over 150 lectures and workshops have been carried out in the schoolyears 2012/13 and 2013/14 in the wider area comprising the provinces of Trieste, Gorizia, Udine, Venice, and Ravenna in Italy and Slovenian Istria, the Karst, Nova Gorica and Ljubljana in Slovenia.

The publication is available in Slovenian language and in Italian language
