The book takes into consideration the example of Slovenes in the Region Friuli – Venezia Giulia and illustrates the complex processes of regional and ethnic development in the ethnically mixed border areas, where a specific cultural dimension substantially influences both social and economic structures of the investigated territories. The author considers the modern theory of regionalism, the issue of ethnic identification of the Slovenes in Italy, the process of political-administrative partition along the present boundary between Slovenia and Italy, the structures and types of development of the eastern part of the Region, the problems related to the changing of the territorial function of the Slovene minority in the same Region. The book contains also numerous illustrations and tables.
