Second survey on the needs of Slovenian speakers in Slovenia and Slovenian speakers in neighboring countries and in the world

Research project funded by the Research Agency of Slovenia (ARRS)

Lead partner: Inštitut F. Ramovša ZRC SAZU
Partner: SLORI, Pedagoški inštitut
Project leader: Nataša Gliha Komac
Contact person for SLORI: Devan Jagodic
Project implementation period : 2023-2025

The project is a follow-up to the 2017 research project Jezikovna politika Republike Slovenije in njeni uporabniki (V6-1647), which established the beginnings of an integrated, long-term, and continuous monitoring of language needs in Slovenia, neighboring countries, and the world in which Slovenian speakers live. The project responds directly to the needs of the drafters of strategic documents, particularly the Resolution on the National Program for Language Policy and the resulting action plans.
Changes in legal and planning documents will be described and current sociolinguistic issues explored. Special attention will be paid to language practices, customs, attitudes and needs of language users, both users of the Slovenian language in general and of other minority, regional and foreign languages in Slovenia, users of vulnerable groups (Slovenian sign language users, the hearing impaired, the blind, the deaf-blind, people with intellectual disabilities, etc.). Again, an online survey, with appropriate methodological and content improvements, will be conducted to verify the issues found among users.
