EVAŠOL 2003

Project for the valorisation of school services

Project promoter: the Directorates of the Italian State schools with Slovene as teaching language
Project performer: SLORI- Slovene Research Institute (resp. Norina Bogatec)
Project implementation period: 2002-2004

The project »EVAŠOL 2003« arouse from the need for a joint analysis of the services available in Italian state schools with Slovene as teaching language. Slori – The main goal of the project performer, the Slovene Research Institute, is the effectiveness and the applicability of the results, being of great importance for the schools as well. In this light, it is first of all fundamental to explain the components, co-operating within the project – pupils, students, parents and teachers, what the project’s objectives are, emphasizing thus the advantages offered by a comparative analysis.

In the questionnaire drawing up phase all the Directors had the opportunity to present their institutes the proposals, which were subsequently analysed by a smaller working group, composed by: Norina Bogatec, as Slori Representative, and the Directors Ksenija Dobrila for Primary schools, Zvonko Legiša for junior (lower) secondary schools and Igor Sancin for senior (upper) secondary schools.

As the questionnaires were prepared, in March 2003 Slori carried out the pre-tests, while the definitive survey took place in April for parents, in May for students and in June 2003 for teachers. 3.835 (75 %) subjects out of 5.097 expected were interviewed; the data was processed on the basis of the survey group, the education level, the province and the directorate. The results were elaborated in the summer period and presented within the single directorates in October.

According to the number of the filled-out questionnaires, it is possible to say, that the obtained results offer a reliable picture of the Slovene education issue in Italy. The analysis clearly shows the misdeeds and the weaknesses, as well as the objectives and the advantages of the analysed school structures, that is why it also gives constructive suggestions for a further deep and diversified research study.

In 2004 Slori published “Slovenska državna šola v Italiji pod drobnogledom” – The Slovene state school under the microscope”, thus offering a good overview of EVAŠOL 2003 outcomes.

The project was fully financed by the Regional Education office.
